Indianapolis, Indiana Big City Attractions.. With Small Town Appeal
Indianapolis has it all. From fine dining to neighborhood eateries, shopping venues
of all description, theatre, performing arts, amateur and professional sports and
of course, racing at the Motor Speedway.
I grew up in southeastern Indiana and came to live in Hoosier capital 23 years ago and
have witnessed the city blossom into a world class destination. There always seems
to be an expansion project going on!
The Latest Improvements
Just in 2008, the city saw the opening of Lucas Oil Stadium, the first flights
into the new International Airport, ground breaking for a second downtown
Marriott and the implosion of the RCA Dome, making way for the expansion of the
Convention Center.
"In recent years, the Hoosier state capital region raised its profile as a
destination, despite its lack of oceans or mountains......."
The Wall Street Journal
March 12, 2008
The Circle City
For a bit of trivia, the city gets its nickname "The Circle City" from the
original circle plotted in 1821. The Soldiers and Sailors Monument was erected on
the site and remains the center piece of the capital city. Radiating from Monument
Circle, many attractions are within walking distance.
On the circle, you will find the Hilbert Circle Theatre, home of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. The Indiana Repertory Theatre is south on Washington street. The Old National Center, formerly the Murat Theatre, is east of the circle. The Indiana History Center on Ohio street and the Eiteljorg Museum on Washington street are also an easy stroll from the circle. Don't miss Circle Centre Mall at the
corner of Meridian and Washington streets.
